Margarita Madness at the Blue Goose Cantina!

October 25, 2012

Rocks? Frozen? Salt? No Salt? Skinny? Meltdown? Swirl? We could go on and on! Well actually… we will! We have so many varieties of margaritas it can make your head spin!

No worries though, we are about to break it down for you! We will even share with you some of our margarita recipes so you can make your own at home!
So first there is the basic house margarita.

Our house rocks margaritas are made with 1 1/2 ounces of well Rio Grande tequila, 1/2 ounce of Gaelano triple sec, a splash of Roses Lime juice, and 1 1/2 ounces of Southern Sun brand sour mix. Southern Sun sour mix is not available to the public but the Huffington Post recommends Margaritaville or Jose Cuervo brand mixes as an alternative.

Frozen margaritas are a bit more difficult to make at home without a kit or margarita machine. We make our frozen margaritas with water, a concentrated margarita mix , and our well tequila. The mix we use is available for purchase at our stores along with a pitcher to make the margarita in.

Alternatives to our frozen margaritas include a Strawberry and a Mango margarita. For these we blend in an ounce of either strawberry or mango puree. We also make a sangria swirl. For the “swirl’s” we pour an ounce of sangria into the bottom of the glass and “swirl” the glass back and forth as we pour the frozen mix on top. The result:

Did you think we were done with frozen margaritas? Think again! We also make meltdowns! A meltdown is a frozen margarita with a shot of liqueur on top. Common liqueurs used are Grand Marnier, Cointreau, Blue Curacao, Chambord, Amaretto, or Midori. Terry, the bartender from the Blue Goose on Greenville Avenue, is know for his “cachetóns” which are sangria swirl meltdowns with Grand Marnier.

Then we have my personal favorite, our skinny margaritas. Skinny margaritas are made with fresh lime juice and agave instead of a pre-made sour mix. They taste delicious and are not quite as sugary. Our very own Marcus Antwine has made us a video on how to make these!

Variations of the skinny margarita can be made by adding pomegranate juice, orange juice, or even a few slices of jalapenos for those that like it SPICEY!

To finish it off we have top shelf margaritas. Top shelf margaritas follow the house rocks recipe from above but use higher quality tequilas and orange liqueurs. Two of our most popular top shelf margaritas include a Patron and Cointreau margarita and a Don Julio and Grand Marnier margarita.

We hope we were able to enlighten you to the world of margaritas! Come visit us soon and try something new!
